Tonia Michno
The Barefoot Artist
Lillington artist, Tonia Michno is lovingly called “the Barefoot Artist.” Why, you might ask? Simple. That’s how she works and it is also part of her philosophy in life. Her style is free and easy – she tells a story in color and shape without adding too much fussy detail.
Tonia’s work as a muralist has given her the opportunity to cover the walls in many cities. Both Trader Joe’s stores located in Raleigh, NC proudly shows off separate thematic designs. One shows the highlights of the city while the other touts the agricultural part of the region.
She has been quoted that her work is a dream job. “It excites me to paint something for someone that is heartfelt. For example, I had a request to paint a portrait of a little girl that had passed away as a Christmas gift for her Mother. The lady that had requested it had only one photo of the child. It was very rewarding to see that I was able to bring happiness to someone who has suffered so much.”
