The White Heron

Jude Lobe

Enamellist / Painter

Being awed and inspired by the natural environment has been a continuous thread throughout my life. It has the unrelenting qualities of rejuvenation and renewal necessary for survival. In my paintings, my desire is to evoke the emotion of a scene or idea through the colors, brush strokes, lines and infinitely broad palette suggested by the environment.

The metal and enamel on copper works began with a love of luminosity of glass. Enamels are dynamic, forever interacting with their environment. There are always new nuances in enamel, depending on the shadows and light of their time and place. You have to love serendipity to work with the enamels as the kiln always has the last word. I like to think that, like people, every enamel has its perfect place in the world, where it flawlessly fits into an environment and thrives.

More recently, I am drawn to create visual experiences mixing unique combinations of the mediums of painting, metal and enameling.
