Pottery

Helga Powell, born in Munich, Germany immigrated to the US in 1961. A life-long love of pottery was turned into a full-time hobby after retirement with pottery classes at FTCC and ongoing training with experienced potters.

Her pottery can be bought in Fayetteville at the Olde Town Gallery, 124 Maxwell St. and at the White Heron Gallery, 610 W. Cumberland St., Dunn, NC 28334 under the HP's POTS label.

Garden theme pottery is sold at the Cape Fear Botanical Garden in Fayetteville under the MUDDKATZ POTTERY label. "Muddkatz" is a collaboration with friends. The works at the Botanical Garden include cache pots, mushrooms, mushrooms with faces, toad houses and garden plaques.

She is also a member of the Harnett County Arts Council and display pottery for sale at their gallery.

I don't like to do "production" type pottery such as mugs, thrown bowls or vases. With very few exceptions my pieces are one of a kind. Sometimes, a specific piece is desired by more  than one person and I may build a nearly identical piece. Generally, I do a lot of experimenting and that results in fewer good pieces. However, this provides more fun at kiln opening time.
