Betty Spalding Hendrix

 

Betty was born in Richmond, Indiana in 1938. She lived there until 1960. She then moved several places around the U.S. and raised two sons. She earned her Bachelor Degree in Business and Economics from the University of Connecticut. 

 

In 1989 Hendrix left her corporate position in Connecticut and retired to North Carolina.  She has been drawing and painting full time now for 20 years.  She spends many happy hours in her studio overlooking Spring Valley Lake.

 Betty's an avid photographer, and her works are all done from life or from her own photography.  Her main interest is nature.  Her works vary from landscape to floral, to animals and birds.  She also does some figure and portrait pieces.
Hendrix has had her works juried into over 50 National and International Exhibitions around the country and online.  She has also had several solo exhibitions and two-woman shows in North Carolina.  In 2009 she received an Honorable Mention Award from Artist's Magazine in their national online competition in the drawing category.  She currently has a piece "Sunrise Strollers" on the Colored Pencil Society of America website in their online show called Explore This! 6  at www.cpsa.org.  Betty's colored pencil piece titled "Prickly Pear" was juried into the upcoming Paint America Top 100 exhibition which will be online through 2010-11 and at various venues around the U.S.
