Ann Flaherty
Strands of Imagination

Ann Flaherty's fiber art has been exhibited and published nationally and around the world.  An activist by nature, her work often responds to situations, both personal and public, with a special emphasis on the many cultural influences interacting throughout our world.

In addition to photographs and images, Ann incorporates a variety of surface design techniques and materials in her art.  A survey of her work will reveal applique, beads, papers, thread painting, paints, oil sticks, rust painting and so much more.  Whether it is at the computer editing images, constructing at the sewing machine, or blasting a heat gun, Ann is comfortable trying just about anything to make her point.

As an artist, curator, and community activist, Ann Flaherty combines all her passions to promote the many possibilities of being American.  Exhibits she has organized have been viewed by thousands from Texas to Vermont.  A graduate of Norwich University, Ann utilized her studies in Issues of Diversity and strong belief in the U.S. Motto, E Pluribus Unum, to curate the exhibits:  E Pluribus Unum, which went on to play a role in the U.S. Coast Guard Diversity Training Program, and E Pluribus Unum II:  Cultures in Cloth, now available for exhibit in your community.  Drawing on all of her experience, Ann encourages students to express the best in all of us through her fiber collage/diversity workshop, Cultural Cloth:  Exploring and Expressing Our Cultural Histories.

As a member of Professional Art Quilters Alliance South, Ann has co-curated several international juried exhibits.  Additionally, she is the founder of Operation Kid Comfort, the nationally recognized and award winning program that has provided free photo-transfer comfort quilts to thousands of "America's Littlest Heroes", the children of our deployed service men and women.
