History of the White Heron Building:
This stately, 4,000 square foot building was once the home and office of Dr. Corbett. It was built between 1932 and 1939. It's been said that it took so long because the Doctor was trying to give people a way to make a living during the depression. Many of his patients also exchanged labor for medical treatment.
The building withstood the thrashings of both hurricanes Fran and Floyd. Today, the future looks bright for this warm and inviting building. Once called the "Corbett House" and now named, the "White Heron", its doors are open to welcome you in.
The White Heron:
"My goal is to showcase all forms of art - not just one" says owner, Adelaide Page. "This is a place for emerging artists to show their skills as well as the professional. We'll be constantly changing things so that when you return, there will be something new to see and enjoy.
I want this business to be a welcoming place. Not quiet and sedate but rather, friendly and welcoming, where people can feel free to come, shop, relax, learn and feel at home."
One step inside, and you know something different and wonderful is about to happen. The White Heron Art Gallery is filled with various types of art using many mediums and styles. It's designed to showcase all styles of art - both 2D and 3D. Each piece is as unique as the artists who created them. There is something to please just about every taste imaginable!
The Heron's Nest:
When you first enter the front doors, take a right where a parlor and dining room greet you and beckon you to come in. Don't let the Victorian flair fool you - this is no stuffy, library-style space to hang out in. During normal Gallery hours, patrons are encouraged to sit and relax, take in the sights and decide what your next wonderful purchase just might be. Both rooms are currently available to reserve for intimate gatherings, meetings, receptions and more! Plans are currently in the works to offer limited food and drink offerings as well as Wi-Fi internet service.
